We had our the soccer final for our indoor soccer team. I was actually pretty surprised we got this far. But hey, let’s not complain. It was humid. I sweated like you would not believe. We played quite well in the first half and it was a close game. They were 6-4 up after the first half. 10 mins later, the score was 13-4. We ran out of legs. Plus to give them some credit, they weren’t that bad either. We made a comeback in the last couple of minutes to bring it back to 13-7 but it wasn’t good enough.
Still we got the runners up trophy. 3rd or 4th time. It is now proudly sitting on the shelf with the others. Sooner or later we will take the victors trophy home.

Flying at Spion
Decided to head to Spion today as they were predicting 15-25kt Southerlies. Got there around 11am and it was straight on at around 20kt. I haven't seen it this perfect in a long time. There were already a couple of guys set up and ready to go. Yan and I set up quickly and were off at about 11:30am. A photo of my glider.
The lift was smooth and good. After topping up, I headed over to Eastern View. Yan followed a short time later. An eagle also decided to come out and join us. I have always found them friendly and inquisitive and this one was no exception. It seemed to like to follow Yan around.
Just sitting about 20 ft behind and a little higher. I heard later, Yan got a great view when it came in closer.
Later on, the hordes arrived and soon there were at least 10 gliders in the air. About 5 of us were trying to get around the corner towards Lorne but with a bit of westerly, it was tough going. Phil and Bruce decided to go on what seemed like a suicide glide around the corner. They didn't make it but came back low. You are supposed to be at about road height going around the corner but you can see they weren't anywhere near there. You will need to look hard but the glider is there.
If you get a bit of height, it is always fun heading out over the surf.
With a bit of westerly you can really pick speed up and race the cars down the road towards the lighthouse at the far end photo above. With 20kts there is no worries about getting too low. You will always be able to surf the dunes and get back up.

Bright 321 Weekend
Headed up to Bright for the completion of the Bright 321 Paragliding competition. I didn’t get to fly that much but it was still a great weekend. Sometimes, it is just as enjoyable just to pass time with others without actually having to do something. What we ended up doing was helping Carol and Oli with the Presentation dinner for a fair chunk but ended up getting feed and generally having a good time so it was worthwhile.
This is a photo of ‘DJ Eddy’ who caught a lift with me from Melbourne to do the music for the presentation night. Cool character indeed as can be seen by this photo (taken with phone).

I had spent the whole trip up telling him all the names we call the paragliders - Jellies, Tea Bags, Para Poofters... Unbeknown to me he was mentally jotting them down and out they came in his comedy stint.
Another way to pass the time when there isn’t much to do is to have a game of Jenga. This is near the completion of a very intense game with Warren (friend of Carols from Qld)

We finished the weekend by checking out a swimming hole near Harrietville. Sensational. Afraid I didn’t take a picture but will be back there for sure.

More on St Kilda Festival
This is another picture I took at the St Kilda Festival. Sometimes you timing is just right as shown by capturing the bike perfectly upside down. I used to complain that my old digital camera had a delay between pressing the button and taking the picture. I updated to smaller model last year and it definitely seems quicker.
Sometimes people get carried away. The above picture show’s a guy who knocked himself out after playing some kind of alcohol induced rumble with blow up chairs. It was quite amusing and had the crowd entertained but it had to end this way.
St Kilda Festival
The weekend before last, I decided to head to the Saint Kilda Festival instead of going Hang Gliding for the day. It did take a bit of effort but I thought I better put some effort into other past times. It’s not all about Hang Gliding is it. Well what a blast. Went with Joelza and Ange and also meet up with Sharon and Nat at some stages. Great bands - Airbourne, Dallas Crane, Kid Confusious and best of all Labjacd. Labjacd is a must see. Such an awesome vibe of latin hip hop jazz funk.
Will definitely be on the lookout for them in the future.
Everybody had a great time. There are some special moments in life. This was one for the guys just behind us. Impressive feat. The whole crowd went wild.
I am definitely going to be putting it in the calendar for next year. Definitely!
