Germany - Travelling South

We woke to clear blue skies on the Wednesday. Things were on the mend. After a usual breakfast of bread, sliced meat, cheese and juice, Olli and I headed out to get the registration on the car done. Even that went without a hitch. One of the problems we had with the car fixed itself when given a good hit (back lights not working).

In the afternoon, we picked up Sarah and Sam and went on towards Munich. There is something disconcerting (but good) about cruising along at 140kph and having cars speed past at 200kph like your standing still. We stopped off at Corrina's place for a Thai feast before heading on for another hour towards Skyline (HG/PG Distributor and flight gear). It was 11pm so we set up camp on the front lawn.

We woke to another clear day and snow on the Alps. This is what we had come to see. Skyline is a great location. Located at the base of the Alps in a large Barvarian type barn.

After checking over my new glider, Olli and I got the cable car up to the top of one of the close-by mountains.

4 weeks ago, there was no snow but the cold snap a couple of days ago bought it back. It was majestic.

Luckily the takeoff was clear as it had had the sun on it. Olli launched first. There was the old bit of lift around. I launched about 10mins later.

It took a while to get used to the new glider. It felt extremely light. I have got the carbon outer's so maybe that is making a difference. It feels a lot lighter than my trusty C4. I didn't really relax till I was on glide. Even on glide it felt a lot different. There was a lot more movement in the base bar with VG on than on the C4.

However, the glide felt excellent. Since it was overcast their was no turbulence on the ground. The glider approach and landed effortlessly. The landing was probably one of the sweetest feelings of the entire flight. The lightness somehow made it nice. We landed back at Skyline.

Where was Sam in all this you ask. Unfortunately Sam's glider didn't make it to Skyline. It was holed up in Frankfurt. There were rumours today that it might take another couple of weeks to come. However, good news came through around lunch time and Sam went and picked up his glider from Munich. Phew!

Hi Tony
The trip looks good.
On your next Post add your Grid ref for where you are and also for Skyline where you picked your Glider, I will then try and get your position on Google Earth.

I will make sure I name the closest town. Then you just type that into the Search box in Google earth. eg. "Schladming, Austria" or "Ubersee, Germany" for where skyline is.

Cheers,
Tony
